Music: Promoter plans monthly pmb jazz concerts with top artists

2008-06-23 00:00

Plans are afoot to bring live jazz, with top local and national artists, to Pietermaritzburg almost monthly.

The first show will take place at the Olympia Hall, Royal Showgrounds, on Sunday, July 6, and will feature Stimela, Pietermaritzburg’s Loc’tion Jams, Iva from Durban and Sacred Brothers. There are hopes that Jika, a group of artists who played with the late guitarist Sipho Gumede, will also be included in the line-up.

EJ (Evening Jazz) Live Pietermaritzburg is the brainchild of Afrimenter Promotions, which is working with Skhumbuzo Hlela of the popular Madlula’s Place in Pietermaritzburg.

“We aim at bringing entertainment and vibe to the city because things are happening almost everywhere. Durban is always busy with entertainment, musically, almost every week,” said Afrimenter Promotions director Abbey Khumalo.

Tickets for the show are R70 and are available from Madlula’s Place, the Bat Centre in Durban and at Gama Funerals in Estcourt.

The show will start at 11 am and end at about 5 pm. For more information contact Khumalo at 072 3355 408.
