Music by the Forest Side

2008-06-06 00:00

Tomorrow Caversham Valley Concerts is hosting guitarist and musical raconteur Tony Cox and new protégé in Richard Onraet, an 18-year-old phenomenon from Cape Town. Next week (June 14) Neill Solomon and Friends (Dan Choirboli, Connie Bentlage and Wayne Coghlan) from Johannesburg perform an acoustic set of hits and material spanning over two decades, as well as new songs. Madala “Bafo” Kunene takes the stage to present his legendary and traditional guitar rhythms.

Midlands Forest Lodge is situated above the Caversham Valley between Howick and Nottingham Road. The site has vast spectacular views of the Natal Midlands rolling hills. The concert venue is outdoors overlooking this view and is adjacent to a 10 hectare indigenous forest. Concert-goers can expect the best staging and sound to compliment the high quality instrumental music.

Midlands Forest Lodge forms part of the Midlands Meander Slow Food Festival and will be serving potjie dishes and vegetable curries. (Another eating option is down the road from Midlands Forest Lodge at the Caversham Mill Restaurant. This excellent establishment on the Lions river waterfall is serving slow cooked tagines, buffet style. Guests would want to book for a 12 noon lunch not to miss the concerts 3,5km away.)

A bar is on site at Midlands Forest Lodge - all that is required is a picnic blanket. The venue will open from 10 am for walks in the forest, eating, drinking and relaxing. The concert will be finished by 4.30pm but guests can stay and watch the winter sun setting over the hills.
