Music icon arrives in Durban

2008-02-29 00:00

Grammy Award-winning Joe Cocker arrives in Durban tonight as part of his world tour.

The Sheffield-born singer is most recognisable for his gravelly voice and his ability to recreate well-known songs and make them his own.

Cocker's long and illustrious career has seen him undergo a major career rebirth that restored him to the fame and status he had during his rise to stardom in the late sixties.

By the mid-eighties, the gravel-voiced star had firmly established himself as one of the most iconic figures in music, contributing to movie soundtracks, including An Officer and a Gentleman and 9 1/2 Weeks before releasing one of his most widely acclaimed albums, Unchain My Heart, in 1987.

The concert is being held at the indoor arena at the International Convention Centre in Durban.

Tickets start at R243 - phone 083 915 8000.
