Music revival: Piano and opera concerts

2008-06-29 00:00

THIS week, Music Revival presents Schubert, Beethoven and Bach, a classical piano concert featuring Christopher Duigan. The centrepiece of the concert is Schubert’s last great masterpiece for piano — the Sonata in B flat D.960. The Schubert sonata is paired with Beethoven’s Sonata Number Two, The Tempest, and the English Suite Number Six by JS Bach.

There will be two shows, at 7.30 pm this Friday and at 3.30 pm on Sunday, both 35 Montgomery Drive. Tickets are R80 (with wine and coffee on Friday and iced tea and coffee on Sunday).

There will be a special treat when Cape Town soprano and this year’s Standard Bank Young Artist Award winner Zanne Stapelberg give a Music Revival performance at Wedgewood in Hilton on Saturday, July 12, at 8 pm. The programme includes a selection of French music in recognition of Bastille Day.

Duigan will accompany Stapelberg. The concert is sponsored by MR Woollam and Associates and the Alliance Française. Tickets are R100 (coffee and nougat) and there will be a cash wine bar.

Booking for all concerts is essential at booking@music revival.co.za or 033 342 3051.
