Musical review from Caldwell and Judge

2008-06-10 00:00

Robert-Ian Caldwell and Jeff Judge have created a new musical revue, When We’re 64, which they are taking to the Grahamstown Festival Fringe at the end of June.

This is Caldwell’s ninth visit to the National Arts Festival and the second time he and Judge have collaborated on a show there — they also took a show to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2004. They have performed together since 2001, especially at soirees often held for fund-raising purposes.

They describe the show as “Caldwell on stage, song and sedation and Judge on piano, saxophone and voice” as they offer “Cole & Noel, less rock than roll, keyboard capers and soprano saxophony.” There will also be name changes, middle-aged flirtations, patriotic needlework, dancing in the dark, future national transport systems and polluted rivers.

There will be a pre-Grahamstown show at St Anne’s College in the

Bandroom at 7 pm for 7.30 pm on Thursday. Tickets are R45 which includes a meal. There will be a cash bar. Booking: Toni Woodgate at 033 343 3300 (office hours).

On Saturday there will be another show, at the same time in the theatre at Fern Hill Hotel. Tickets are R120 which includes a buffet meal. Booking: 033 330 5071.
