N2 accidents injure many, kill eight over the weekend

EIGHT people died and 16 were injured in different accidents at the weekend.

In the most serious, six people died when their vehicle crashed while travelling from Umlazi to Mthatha on the N2 on Saturday.

Road Traffic Inspectorate spokesperson Zinhle Mngomezulu said the driver lost control of the vehicle, which overturned. Four people died at the scene and two in hospital.

Also on the N2, near Sezela, two women attempting to cross the road were struck by a vehicle. One of the women died on impact and the other in hospital.

A collision between a truck and two cars left one man fighting for his life and another man seriously injured. The accident happened on the R603 near Amanzimtoti at 10 am on Saturday afternoon.

Netcare911 paramedics attended to the men at the scene before they were taken to hospital.
