N3 crash: appeal for witnesses

2012-07-17 00:00

POLICE are making an appeal to anyone who witnessed an accident on the N3 northbound on July 4 to come forward with information that could assist in their investigation of a case of reckless and negligent driving.

Police spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane said police are looking for the whereabouts of the car that allegedly caused the accident.

It is alleged that at about 9.10 am, the driver of a gold Hyundai Elantra was driving next to a white bakkie on the N3 freeway.

“They were driving on the northbound lane near the Market Road off ramp in Pietermaritzburg when the driver noticed a white Opel motor vehicle overtaking him on the grass patch in the extreme right hand side of the two-lane freeway, causing him to swerve and collide with the bakkie on his left,”said Zwane.

No one was injured. He added that the white Opel fled the accident scene.

Anyone with information should contact the investigating officer Warrant Officer Donovan Cronjé at 033 845 7700/24 or on his cell at 083 781 9854.

Potential witnesses can also visit his office at Alexandra Road police station.
