NFD: Ngwenya to join Thanda

2011-09-07 00:00

THE hugely talented but sometimes lazy Manqoba “Shakes” Ngwenya may be reunited with his former coach, Neil Tovey, at Thanda Royal Zulu, writes LINDA XIMBA.

The versatile player from Gauteng joined the National First Division outfit last week and was closely monitored alongside striker Excellence Walaza, formerly with Orlando Pirates.

Should he end up being signed by the Richards Bay-based side, Ngwenya will aim to grab the chance with both hands and work towards rekindling his impressive form. It was under Tovey at Mamelodi Sundowns that his impressive skills led the Pretoria side to win cup after cup.

Thanda general manager Peter Kotroulis said they were so far impressed by the players at training.

“We will make an announcement regarding their signing soon,” he said.

Meanwhile, the NFD programme resumes this weekend after a weekend off due to Fifa international fixtures. Thanda visit Atlie FC in Gauteng on Friday while University of Pretoria travel to Cape Town for a date with rookies Sinaba FC.

Friday: Atlie FC v Thanda (Sinaba, 7.30 pm), Chippa United v University of Pretoria (Phillipi, 8 pm)

Saturday: (all kick-offs at 3 pm)

Bay United v Vasco da Gama (Old Peter Mokaba), Dynamos v FC Cape Town (Giyani), Witbank Spurs v Sivutsa FC (Ackerville).
