NFP election left UKZN venue strewn with litter

2011-12-06 00:00

EMPTY takeaway food containers, plastic bottles and papers strewn across Golf Road — that’s the sight that greeted Scottsville residents yesterday morning after the National Freedom Party held its elective conference at the University of KwaZulu-Natal at the weekend.

The party hired the university’s Denison residence to accommodate its 2 000 delegates.

Residents driving past the area said it was left in a mess. Said one, “It was just litter everywhere; they had left the place like that from Sunday after their conference until about mid-morning yesterday.”

When The Witness visited the area at about 11 am, the place had been cleaned and the only evidence that the mess had been there were several bulging garbage bags waiting to be collected.

UKZN spokesperson Nomonde Mbadi said the party undertook to clean up the mess.

“The NFP informed student housing on Sunday that the delegates from the Denison residence had left the place unclean and undertook to have the venue cleaned. The NFP hired and paid a contractor to clean up the venue.” — WR.
