Nair is only KZN ‘Idol’ left

2013-10-01 00:00

KZN’S only hope in the Idols competition Crystalene Nair, says she has come a long way since that first audition, and has learned to believe in herself more.

She made the cut for the Idols Top 10 last week. She first blew the judges away at the Idols auditions with her performance of the 1939 classic Over the Rainbow. Last Sunday, she wowed judges and audiences again with Selena Gomez’s Come and Get It.

The 24-year-old science teacher from Newlands West, Durban, has left audiences stunned from the very first day she appeared on their TV screens.

In an interview with The Witness earlier, Nair said her love for singing goes back to her childhood.

“I discovered my singing ability during my schooling years, singing for classmates and friends. The compliments I kept getting made me realise I must be singing rather well. I have always loved singing as I have grown up in an environment that embraces music and singing,” stated Nair.

Nair has the unstinting support of family and friends, and now a following of fans.

She said: “My family is absolutely proud of my achievements and they support me no matter what may happen in the future.

“My biggest support comes from my entire family, my siblings and very close friends, not forgetting those wonderful fans. Also, my pupils are extremely proud and excited to see me get this far, I think it’s also unbelievable for them to see their ‘Mam’ on TV.

“I have more respect for this industry. I learned to just relax and believe more in myself and be more confident when I hit the stage,” said Nair, when asked about the change the experience has brought about in her.
