Nel going Bloem-ing well at Tour School

2010-12-04 00:00

COLIN Nel can’t put a foot wrong in Bloemfontein this week, and the Maritzburg product is now one round away from winning the torturous Sunshine Tour Qualifying School tournament.

Nel shot his second 67 of the week yesterday, and a run of eagle-birdie-eagle from the third hole calmed whatever nerves he had.

“I was just looking to go round in level par, so that was a bit of a bonus!” he said last night.

All he needs to do today is keep it together, as his seven shot lead should see him secure top spot - and an infinitely smoother ride for next season.

“The win — and a cheque of around R13 000 — would be a bonus, but my aim this week was to get a better ranking card,” he maintained.

He is well on his way to doing that, but for Chris van der Merwe, it was a desperate tale of oh-so-close.

The amateur star fell one agonising stroke shy of the cut ahead of today’s final round, and his will be a long weekend of what could have been. Nel, though, will be looking to finish off his Bloem-ing good week with another composed round today.
