New films in town

2009-11-27 00:00

THE waiting is finally over if you’re a fan of the Twilight Saga. The Twilight Saga: New Moon , the latest film, which is based on Stephenie Meyer’s best-selling series, can be seen at Cine-Centre in Pietermaritzburg.

It’s been a year since the last Twilight film was released around the world and the producer of the latest film, Wyck Godfrey, is promising fans that it won’t simply be a sequel.

Like the book that inspired it, the film takes Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) and Edward Cullen’s (Robert Pattinson) fledgling relationship to a more intense and dangerous level, and reveals a conflict that will haunt Bella as the story continues: the age-old rivalry between the Quileute tribe and the vampires, played out between Bella’s best friend, Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner) and the man she loves, Edward.

Also opening at Cine-Centre this weekend is the Disney comedy, Old Dogs, which tells the story of two best friends — an unlucky-in-love divorcé (Robin Williams) and a fun-loving bachelor (John Travolta) — who have their lives turned upside down when they’re unexpectedly charged with the care of seven-year-old twins while on the verge of the biggest business deal of their lives.

The not-so-child-savvy bachelors stumble in their efforts to take care of the twins (newcomers Ella Bleu Travolta and Conner Rayburn), leading to one debacle after another, and perhaps to a new-found understanding of what’s really important in life.• Still showing at Cine-Centre is The Ugly Truth, Disney’s A Christmas Carol, Inglourious Basterds, Sorority Row, Law Abiding Citizen and Surrogates.
