New look, new feel, new focus for SABC2

2013-03-11 00:00

VIEWERS of SABC2 will have noticed the new look of the channel.

The new logo and tag line, “You Belong”, was unveiled at a glitzy launch function in Johannesburg on March 1.

SABC2’s channel number is set against bold primary colours (red, blue, yellow or green) and is described by Zandile Nkonyeni, the publicity manager for the channel, as “very clean, simple, modern”.

Along with the new look comes a new focus that will inform all of the channel’s programming, public interactions and CSI initiatives.

The six pillars of this new focus are family, identity, health, education, jobs and careers, and world exposure.

“As a public broadcaster, these key principles will underpin all of our channel decisions and drive our programming mandate.

“But it is by no means didactic — our strategy has always been simple; before we write any script, before we shoot a scene, before we cast any talent, before we record any voice, we first ask ourselves: Is it true? Is it inspirational? Is it exciting? Is it truly a reflection of South Africa?” Nkonyeni said.

SABC2’s programming includes the popular soapies Muvhango and 7de Laan, talk show Motswako, children’s favourite Takalani Sesame and the nature classic, 50/50.

The changes have already caused a few ripples among viewers, especially after rumours spread that the popular show Pasella was being taken off air.

SABC2 was, however, quick to refute the claims, saying: “Pasella will not be permanently removed from the schedule.

“However, alternative viewing will be introduced in the form of a new programme that will sit on the same slot as Pasella as part of the new SABC2 look-and-feel direction.”

The last episode of the current Pasella season will air on May 22. It will be followed by a new travel programme called Mooiloop. A new season of Pasella will begin when the travel show ends. Catch Pasella on SABC2 on Wednesdays at 7.30 pm.
