New principal hopes to scale new heights at Silver Heights school

2013-01-17 00:00

SILVER Heights Secondary School in Northdale yesterday cheered as their newly appointed headmaster, Dina Moodley, took to the podium to address them on the first day of school.

Moodley assumed his position in December last year after the school had no principal for a year.

Holding his A3 diary, Moodley laid out the rules for 2013.

The new headmaster said he expected respect, punctuality, cleanliness, no bunking of classes and hard work.

“When you go to the outside world and become an adult this is what your employer requests of you. So, in school, we’re inculcating these values so that you can serve South Africa very well,” he added.

Moodley was deputy principal at Kharina Secondary School for 15 years and used to be a subject adviser in the Gauteng Department of Education.

Last year, the school achieved a 92% matric pass rate and his plan is to increase this even further.

Moodley’s long-term goals include upgrading the infrastructure — revamping toilets, building a media centre for teachers and installing CCTV cameras to create a safer environment.
