Newcastle beauty scoops Miss Africa

2008-10-02 00:00

KZN woman Nerita Bedasie is the new Miss Africa after scooping the title in Tshwane last month.

The Newcastle-born beauty started modelling at the age of 11 to boost her self confidence.

Today, 13 years later, ramp and photographic modelling have become her passionate hobby.

“I’m very excited. I worked very hard for this. But I really want to make a difference by being involved with different charities. For me, it’s not just about being a beauty queen, but making a difference,” she said.

She currently works as a travel agent, which has given her the opportunity to travel, and she has visited Switzerland, Brazil, India, France and Italy.

“Growing up, my dreams were modelling and travel. I would definitely say that I’m living my dream.

I hope that my success will inspire other young girls growing up in little towns like Newcastle to see that it is possible to grow up in a place with limited opportunities and still make your dreams a reality.”

Bedasie believes that versatility, determination, confidence and talent have brought her to this moment.

And for the next 12 months, she plans to work with young people as she believes “they are the future of the country”.
