Newly formed rock band, Skylit City

2010-07-16 00:00

Skylit City, a newly formed Maritzburg band, was formed by long-time friends Tyron Ivins (vocals and guitar), Warren Burczak (bass) and Josh Wantenaar (guitars and vocals) in early May of 2010.

After being in many different musical projects and bands, including the Arise Band, the three have started in a new direction, having formed a good bond and writing chemistry. Drummer and friend Eben deWet joined the trio after playing together with Wantenaar and Burczak in one of their projects called Truth Revealed. His joining has completed the four-piece rock outfit, adding a technical element to the songwriting process.

Skylit City aims to grip listeners with a bold and raw rock sound as well as what they have to say. Contemporary worship music has always been a focal point for the group, “and will always continue to be in the future”, says vocalist Ivins, who adds that they will continue to be involved with various worship projects.

Skylit City, however, has been formed with a different purpose — to “reach people who would not otherwise be inclined to listen to music with the Christian Worship label”. Encouraging positivity, hope and love in a fast-dying world are some of the key themes the band explores in its songwriting, but Ivins stresses that the band’s personal struggles and issues are also addressed in the songs, both musically and lyrically.

The band will be performing alongside The Ranks and Johannesburg band Habourlight on July 24 at NCF (Bisley) at 7pm.
