THE qualifying tournament to determine which high school side will represent the uMgungundlovu Region for the Sanlam/Motsepe National High Schools Soccer Cup takes place today at Dalry Park, Camps Drift. Nine local schools are in the running to qualify for the provincial finals.

Prize money is R1 million for the national winners and R400 000 for the runners up.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for all the teams taking part, bringing together schools from different areas … who may not normally play each other. It will showcase the local talent and expose the players to a higher level of performance,” said Dan Haswell, coach of Maritzburg College.

The tournament gets underway at 9 am and spectators are welcome to attend.
