No back-up plan for rubbish

2011-05-13 00:00

THE city’s rubbish woes continue. According to residents the problem is that the municipality has not been able to put in place a contingency plan that allows them to pick up both the backlog of rubbish and keep up with current collections.

Many areas like Lynnfield Park and parts of Northdale that have their refuse collected on a Wednesday found that the usual round was not taken this week. Prestbury’s rubbish, which is collected on a Tuesday, also had not been collected.

A Lynnfield resident said the municipality went to her area on Sunday to pick up the refuse, but did not come on Wednesday for the usual round. The same situation prevailed in Belfort and parts of Northdale.

There were several other calls to The Witness with complaints and suggestions over the rubbish debacle.

Some asked whether the workers had a route map of the different suburbs because certain streets regularly get left out on pickup days. There were also complaints of work half done. Many residents were concerned about the municipality’s list of its refuse removal rounds which was published in yesterday’s Witness saying the list was incomplete.

Areas that were not mentioned in the list were Hayfields, Pelham, Oak Park. They asked for a more detailed list.
