No bail for Tongaat murder accused

THE three men charged with the murder of a Tongaat couple will see in the New Iear in a police cell.

They appeared in the Verulam Magistrate’s Court yesterday and had more charges added to their rap sheet.

Sibusiso Mthimkhulu (28), Senzo Nduli (21) and Lucky Ernest Njoko (31), all from Tongaat, face a string of charges that include the murder of Balaram Reddy and his wife Maliga on December 22.

They are also charged woth the attempted murder of the couple’s son, Nivashin, who has since been discharged from hospital.

The state alleges that the men robbed the couple of their wedding ring, gold bangles, four cellphones, R4 000 in cash and the son’s laptop. They are also accused of later that night robbing Rishin Ramnarian and Rishal Ramnarian of their cellphones in Burgbreeze Drive, Tongaat.

State prosecutor Naveen Sewparsat asked the court to remand the men in custody until January 6.

A spokesperson for the Reddy family said they opposed bail.
