No responses to valuation appeals as deadline looms

2014-09-25 00:00

THE deadline for the Msunduzi valuation appeal process looms and still many residents say they have not received responses to their valuation objections.

Councillor Rooksana Ahmed raised this matter at full council on Tuesday.

She said she was informed by officials that 1 200 notices informing residents of the outcome of their objections had gone out and that there were still 2 059 notices that were due to go out by September 2 . However, she said at a Ward 31 public meeting on September 8, it was verified that the notices had still not been sent out. This was worrying, she said, as the deadline for appeals had been set for the first week of October.

Council Speaker Babu Baijoo said he had also received queries on the matter while at the ANC constituency offices in Raisethorpe.

Baijoo said he would be arranging a meeting with the officials concerned to raise these issues.

Municipal manager Mxolisi Nkosi confirmed that the Msunduzi Valuations Appeals Board had not yet been established. Nkosi said he had spoken to Co-operative Governance MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube, who told him the process was under way. He added that in the meantime the MEC had said Msunduzi appeals could be heard by Ethekwini and uThukela Appeals Boards.
