No water, power in Bulwer

2008-01-18 00:00

Bulwer residents have had a tough week.

Besides experiencing numerous power outages due to load shedding, most of them have also been without water.

Frustrated residents Andrew and Lyn Kilian told The Witness that most of the town’s water supply was interrupted on Monday and by yesterday morning they were still without water.

“We believe the problem was caused by a damaged valve, but have had no real explanation from Sisonke [Kokstad] Municipality as to why it has taken so long to repair.”

Kilian said water trucks were sent to their area only once all week.

The water dispensed from the truck needs to be boiled, said the Kilians, but a lack of constant electricity supply has made this difficult.

Charles Hicken, chairman of the Bulwer Development Association, said there have been many problems since Sisonke took over the water function.

Despite hopes of the supply being restored, by late yesterday taps were still dry. Numerous attempts to reach Ben Ngcobo from the water authority were unsuccessful yesterday as he was allegedly in a meeting all day.
