No water: residents complain as resevior shuts for repairs

2010-03-18 00:00

HOMES in areas across the city woke up to dry taps yesterday.

The Witness heard calls from Prestbury, the city centre, Clarendon and Newholmes.

One resident said that when he called the municipality, he was told the reservoir that feeds Prestbury had run dry.

Asked to comment, municipality spokeswoman Ntobeko Ngcobo told The Witness that Umgeni Water had shut down the World’s View reservoir with the “intention to monitor and/or repair reservoirs”.

“The municipality has arranged for water to be supplied through water tankers at the areas affected.”

She said Umgeni Water is responsible for notifying the public about its intentions through the media. “However, we apologise to those affected for the inconvenience caused. Water will be restored as soon as the work is completed.”

Yesterday evening the municipality said water had been restored in all areas.

In an advertisement yesterday, Umgeni Water said the disruption had been caused by a tie-in into the 60 pipelines in the World’s View area.
