Northdale resident hunting news-hungry thief

2015-02-19 00:00

A NORTHDALE resident has fallen victim to a skulking newspaper thief, striking under the cover of darkness, for months on end.

A frustrated Lyn Singh laid complaint after complaint with The Witness, thinking that her paper was not being delivered.

However, one morning, before sunrise, she noticed a woman sneaking away from her postbox, newspaper in hand.

As Singh rushed into her driveway, the news-hungry thief made off in a car.

“It was a young Indian lady wearing a white jacket in a white Golf. When I got out of the house she drove off with the paper,” she said.

She added that her newspaper started going missing every morning since late last year, and she assumed that The Witness was no longer delivering the paper, until she phoned and laid a complaint.

“Once I realised that someone may have been taking the paper, we decided to arrange with The Witness delivery men to press the intercom every morning when dropping off the paper at our house so that we could identify the paper thief,” she said.

Singh said there had only been a single sighting of the thief. “I think she’s still laying low ever since she got caught. People like mahala stuff, they don’t want to work and own their own things,” she said.
