NORTHWOOD School’s first hockey team beat Glenwood 6-4 to remain unbeaten and top their pool in the indoor league on Wednesday.

Returning from injury, Northwood’s Matthew da Sousa wasted no time in settling down, netting three goals as he paved the way for the Durban North lads.

Rhys Westermeyer, Steve McManus and Simon du Plessis bagged the other goals.

Both sides created numerous chances in an even first half that saw the teams head for the change rooms locked at 2-2 and the game in the balance.

Northwood started the second period the stronger side, changing into top gear with three unanswered goals.

As the final 10 minutes approached, Northwood looked comfortable with a 5-2 advantage and certain of victory. With nothing to lose, Glenwood threw everything into attack and were rewarded with two goals, thanks to great team play.

With only a goal between the sides and time winding down, Glenwood pushed forward with meaning, keen to share the spoils. But, it was Northwood who had the final say with a well converted penalty corner to seal the win and break Glenwood hearts.
