OVERLOAD: BURNT POWER LINE leaves HILTON IN THE DARK

2011-05-31 00:00

RESIDENTS of Hilton suffered two days of load shedding as a result of damage caused by overloading an electricity power line supplying the area.

The unexpected power cuts happened at intervals throughout the day on Sunday and yesterday.

Acting Msunduzi municipal manager Thokozani Maseko said one of the lines was burnt. “People are now using too much electricity and there is overload. After one line got burnt we were left with only one line operating. We had to apply load shedding to alternate the supply of electricity,” said Maseko.

Rresidents were outraged and accused the municipality of not informing them about the load shedding.

“How are we supposed to know when is the electricity is going to be out? We cannot use banks and the library is closed,” said one resident, who declined to be named. — WR.
