Office tiff led to ‘hit’

2014-07-18 00:00

A NORTH Coast woman was so incensed after an office dispute that she allegedly hired a hitman to kill her colleague.

The 21-year-old woman from Darnall was taken into custody after the hitman approached police who then set up a sting near Zinkwazi.

A police source, who could not be named, said that the two women knew one another well.

“She wanted to watch the murder, and see the other woman die on the ground. The hitman convinced her to wait in a car some distance away, so she could still hear the gunshot, which she did. She was arrested with the pay-off money while sitting in the car.”

KwaDukuza police acted on information and went to the area where the exchange of money between the hitman and the suspect would take place.

“The police were approached by a man, who said that the suspect in this case had tried to secure his services as a ‘hitman’. A sting operation was set up and the ‘hitman’ was sent back to meet his benefactor while police monitored the conversation,” the source said.

The suspect allegedly handed over R1 500 to the hit man as a deposit.

The officers thereafter arrested the suspect and recovered another R1 500 which was to be paid after the killing.

Police spokesperson, Captain Thulani Zwane said the woman was expected to appear at the kwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court where she will be charged with conspiracy to commit murder.
