One Direction shows: sad fans can’t camp out

2015-03-27 00:00

EAGER teens will not be allowed to camp out in front of the FNB Stadium tonight ahead of the concert by superstar boyband One Direction.

Fans will only be allowed to start queuing from 10 am tomorrow, and the gates will open at 4 pm.

These are just two of the safety rules put in place for the concerts in Johannesburg on Saturday and Sunday.

The group, without Zayn Malik, whose departure was announced this week, landed in the country yesterday for their first South Africa concerts.

“Niall, Harry, Liam and Louis will continue as a four-man group,” their statement said.

Malik was said to want to be a “normal 22-year-old” and enjoy more private time.

His fans worldwide have been sharing their dismay on social media.

Dionne Domyan-Mudie, a spokesperson for Big Concerts, said there are a few tickets left for Sunday’s Johannesburg concert and there might be a few for the Cape Town event, but it is “more or less sold out”.

Johannesburg Metro Police spokesperson Wayne Minnaar said streets around the stadium will be closed and people are urged to use buses from park and ride facilities to avoid a huge traffic jam.

Big Concerts said all concertgoers younger than 14 must be accompanied by an adult, and those aged under 13 and less than 1,2 metres tall will not be allowed in the golden circle.
