Organ music workshop and recital

2008-06-17 00:00

SAKOV (Suid-Afrikaanse Kerkorrelistevereniging) invites all organists, music directors, music pupils, ministers and other interested persons to a morning of organ music and a lecture on how to refine one’s playing. The workshop takes place on June 21 at the Lutheran church in Hayfields and will be led by well-known South African organist, Professor Wim Viljoen.

Registration starts at 8 am. The introductory lecture covers contemporary trends in hymn playing in diverse styles with particular reference to phrasing — particularly useful for the organist leading a congregation during services.

Senior music pupils who are interested in learning to play this “king of all instruments” will benefit from the “Pipe-Organ Experience” later in the morning. Thereafter, Viljoen will perform works demonstrating the impressive sounds of the pipe-organ.

For those who are interested in attending the workshop, contact Alet Jooste at 084 583 0144 or 033 347 2400 (evenings) — booking for the workshop is essential.

If you would like to join participants later for the recital which starts at noon, tickets (R30) will be on sale at the entrance.
