Oribi Airport upgrades car park facility to paid parking

2010-06-29 00:00

PEOPLE flying from Oribi Airport will now have to pay for parking — but the facilities have been upgraded.

The new parking facilities at Oribi Airport opened on Saturday and the first motorist to park there was given a celebratory bottle of champagne to mark the occasion.

The new 350-bay car park, designed, constructed and managed by Easipark, provides parking for long-term and short-term commuters, for VIP vehicles, disabled people, the staff, car hire firms and taxis and buses. Parking is free in the drop-off zone.

Shaded parking bays will shortly be provided for long-term parkers, staff and tenants.

The new car park operates 24 hours a day and is monitored by CCTV cameras.

Access to the parking areas is controlled by a boom and casual parkers are automatically issued with a mag-stripe parking ticket on entry. Tenants and staff have access tags.

Parking tariffs in the short-term area range from three rand for 15 minutes to R60 for 10 to 24 hours. Long-term parking is charged at R50 per 24 hours.

The car park uses a pay-on-foot parking system, which means that you pay for parking at the autopay stations inside the terminal building.
