Oscar Pistorius: agent and coach to seek answers on his future in athletics

2013-04-02 00:00

OSCAR Pistorius may decide today on his future in athletics.

Peet van Zyl and Ampie Louw, Pistorius’s agent and trainer, hope to speak to him today about his plans.

Since Pistorius’s bail conditions were relaxed on appeal by the high court in Pretoria last week, it would now be possible for him to train overseas, because he would be allowed to leave the country, under certain conditions.

“Oscar must decide if he wants to train and when he wants to start,” said Van Zyl.

“We won’t commit him to train or force him. It must be his decision.”

Pistorius would not in any case be able to race again soon.

Van Zyl said there is a long road ahead of the Paralympian, who has not been anywhere near a training track since he shot his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp dead on February 14.

“Any athlete who wants to compete at the highest level must train. We don’t know how long it would take for Oscar to be able to race again,” said Van Zyl.

“He also has to be psychologically ready to train. The impact of Reeva’s death was great.”

There have been calls in Europe for Pistorius to be denied entry to athletics meets while his fate still remains to be decided by the courts.
