PMB film-makers release horror movie on DVD

2011-04-07 00:00

A NEW horror thriller, made by Pietermaritzburg film-makers Chillies Productions, will be available on DVD from Saturday.

Ngizenze Mina Part II, is the second instalment of the Zulu drama Ngizenze Mina, which saw an elderly widower, Bhengu (played by Lucky Biyela), marry Nozi (Thandeka Mdoloba), a woman much younger than himself. But instead of living happily ever after, Nozi’s appearance causes chaos in the family when her stepson falls for her and then plots to have his dad killed. The new film, which was shot in and around Pietermaritzburg, picks up with Bhengu returning in a ghostly form, along with his dead daughter Sne (Lungelo Nxumalo) to take revenge on those who caused his death.

The man behind the film project is 37-year-old Chillies Nxumalo (who also plays a pastor in the new movie). Ngizenze Mina Part II is his fifth film.

Asked how he came to be making movies, the Imbali Unit 3 resident said that it all started when he did drama at Mehloka Zulu High School in Imbali. “I started out acting, doing drama, then I started filming. I started with comedies like Dubula Mthaba and I’ve now moved into dramatic films,” Nxumalo added.

But he admits that without the support of sponsors such as Karanicha’s in Church Street, it would be difficult to get film projects off the ground.• Ngizenze Mina part II will be launched at Market Square in Pietermaritzburg on Saturday from 9 am to 1 pm.

If you would like to find out more about the film and Chillies Productions, which is based in Retief Street, phone Nxumalo at 073 843 7218.
