PMB joins in support for Palestinians

2014-07-14 00:00

BETWEEN 150 and 200 people took part in a silent protest outside the Liberty Midlands Mall in Pietermaritzburg yesterday, to highlight the current crisis in Palestine.

The organiser of the Pietermaritzburg protest, Mohamed Saeed, said, “The collective punishment being meted out to the Palestinian people in Gaza needs to be condemned in the strongest possible terms … Global leaders must use all means to stop Israeli bombardments.

“The illegal occupation of Palestine by Israel must be equitably addressed. It is not about religion; it is about humanity and a life of dignity.”

Saeed’s appeal comes just days after the ANC condemned what it called “the barbaric attacks on the defenceless Palestinian people of Gaza”.

Saeed welcomed the support of the ANC, adding that there were plans for several more silent protests and vigils across the city.
