PMB man makes Mr SA top 20

2009-10-19 00:00

A BORN and bred “Maritzburg boy” has made it to the Top 12 of the Mr South Africa pageant to be held in March next year.

Patrick Kasongo (23) was selected out of thousands of entries to stand a shot at being crowned Mr South Africa 2010. The decision was made official at a conference held in Johannesburg yesterday.

“Not once did I think I’d make it to the Top 12,” said Kasongo. “I was shocked to have made it to the Top 200.

“The competition was really tight, but you’ll never know until you try.”

Kasongo is an architecture student at Durban University of Technology.

His career as a professional model began three years ago after he was scouted at the gym where he works.

His career took off quickly and two years later he took the title of first runner-up in the Men’s Health Look 2008 competition.

The chiselled model said it will be tough trying to balance the competition, modelling, work and his studies — but he will try his best.

Contestants will be judged on looks, personality, charity work and “the X factor”.

Kasongo said he plans to do things the way he always has: “be myself and give it my all”.
