PMB zombie dancers leave ‘Got Tatent’ with big plans

2014-11-10 00:00

THE Pietermaritzburg dance crew had to pack their bags after yesterday’s SA’s Got Talent show on

The Matrix Avatorz — made up of Tumelo Mohloali (24), Monwabisi Mhlongo (22) and Siyabonga Ndlovu (22) — originally from Imbali were eliminated yesterday after failing to impress the judges in the semi-finals.

Despite their elimination on SA’s Got Talent, the zombie-themed group told The Witness their greatest accomplishment in their career was to appear on the show.

Mhlongo said they formed the group in 2007 at Zamazulu Secondary School, after discovering they were related to each other.

“We first went by the name Dominators, then in 2010 we changed our group name to Matrix Avatorz due to our inspiration in the movies such as the Matrix and Avatar, following their storyline based on survival,” he said.

Previously, the group has auditioned for Step Up and Step Out, won the Red Bull beat battle and Dance to Fame competitions, to mention a few.

“We came in to SA’s Got Talent to blow the judges and fans away with our dance acts.

“The choreographers in the competition felt our choreography was a little bit too much for television, so we had to exclude some parts we had prepared for the semi-finals,” said Mohloali.

The last member of the group, Ndlovu, believes that bigger opportunities will arise following their stint.

“We plan on hosting a Pietermaritzburg and Durban hip-hop show and begin our very own dance school to assist those who aspire to become hip-hop dancers,” he said.

“These boys come from a disadvantage community and school where there aren’t any laboratories to mix the chemicals they used,” said Monwabisi Mhlongo’s mother, Sbongile.

“I always supported them such much-needed props as I could afford, because I understood their concept of how zombies behave and lived.”
