PMR.africa: Port of Richards Bay scoops gold award

2012-10-27 00:00

THE port of Richards Bay has been awarded top honours by the publication Professional Management Review (PMR.africa) in this year’s 2012 PMR.africa rankings.

Operated by Transnet Port Terminals (TPT), the port received the second highest overall score, scooping the gold award in the category for best port in KwaZulu-Natal.

The port of Durban received the diamond arrow award in the same category.

Michelle Phillips, TPT’s executive manager for innovation and continuous improvement, and Bev Masson, TPT’s national key account executive, received the awards at the Business Leaders’ Breakfast held in Durban last month.

The port of Durban ranked first overall, scoring 4,12 out of a possible five points, the highest score in the annual national survey of major industry sectors in KwaZulu-Natal.

Centred on measuring client service and satisfaction, the annual awards acknowledge excellence in the industry, setting benchmarks for other organisations in the same field.

The rankings were calculated through a survey of 175 respondents in fields of industry holding positions ranging from executive officers, managing directors, business owners and senior government officials.

TPT’s Chief Executive Karl Socikwa said: “We are honoured to receive these awards shortly after the port of Ngqura received a PMR.africa Golden Arrow Award in July for its contribution to the economy.”
