PSL CEO accused of mistreating staff

2012-02-18 00:00

JOHANNESBURG — Much fanfare surrounded the appointment of Stan Matthews as new Premier Soccer League chief executive, but his time in charge of the governing body may be coming to an abrupt end.

Matthews was appointed for his administrative expertise, having been on the PSL executive committee for the past five years, as well as for the sterling work he did with SuperSport United over the past 12 years.

But allegations of his mistreatment of staff within the PSL offices has led to calls for his head with members having been asked to submit affidavits regarding a meeting where Matthews allegedly used abusive language.

Matthews, CEO since February 1, reportedly confronted Sipho Mandla, who works in the finance department, for not wearing a tie yesterday.

But he has denied using abusive language and telling staff that his child was more competent than some of them.
