Pack up the winter woolies, smell the jasmine, it’s spring

2010-09-01 00:00

IT’S spring time; flowers are blossoming around the city and shoots of green grass are pushing their ways through the fire-scorched earth.

It’s time to pack away the last of winter’s paraphernalia — there is no need for heaters, scarves and gloves, especially not in a city expected to reach 30 degrees today.

Vendors at the Pietermaritzburg Farmers’ Market said springtime meant more people ambling through the market.

A representative from Tanglewood Nursery at the market said daisies, fuschias and day lilies are among the flowers that will blossom in the coming week.

“In fact, most flowers wake up at this time of the year — roses as well,” she said, encouraging gardeners to plant their flowers before the rain.

The Witness’s facebook page was flooded with comments. Paul Pereira, Melanie Cronje and Kirsty Canon agree the best thing about spring is the sweet smell of jasmine.

Butterflies, green grass, flowers and sunshine came out as firm spring favourites among The Witness’s facebook friends. Join the conversation on facebook: what is your favourite song for spring/summer 2010? www.facebook.com/witnesspaper
