Padsa Soccer teams have a ball

2011-04-25 00:00

THE Pietermaritzburg and District Soccer Association (Padsa) Easter Tournament which started last week Friday at the Northdale Stadium has not only seen battles for the best soccer team which will walk away with the grand prize of R50 000.

But the eight food stalls were also competing for the tastiest braai wors rolls and chicken tikka.

Yesterday one of the vendors, Shane Chetty, said that he did not expect to be selling products similar to those of his competitors.

“Seeing all these braai stands was a surprise to me,” said Chetty.

However, to conquer was all in Chetty’s plan of action. He had brought his secret ingredient — his Nando’s marinade source, which he said would tantalise his customers’ taste buds.

“This source is my best weapon for the chicken tikka. I am expecting to draw more customers with the wors roll and cool drink combo for only R15. By the end of today (yesterday) I know that I will be the winner with the tastiest fast food,” said Chetty with a laugh.

About 68 junior and 66 senior teams had competed by yesterday since the start of the tournament.

With yesterday being the last day of the tournament, the winners in the senior group will receive R50 000 and the runners-up will walk away with R20 000. Senior group two winners will receive R20 000 and the runners-up will get R10 000.

Speaking to The Witness, the president of Padsa, Sunny Naidoo said that today’s semi-finals will be played between 8:00 am and 11:00 am, which will then be followed by finals matches.

“Finals will start at 11:00am starting with the Under 11, 13, 15, 17, 19, over 35 group, senior group two and finally senior group one. The main final will be held at 3:30 pm,” said Naidoo.
