Pair face life terms for newlyweds’ murder

2010-07-31 00:00

THE prosecution has called for sentences of life imprisonment to be imposed on two men found guilty of charges arising from the murders of newly married Merrivale couple, Martha and Allan O’Neale, during a “meticulously planned”robbery on June 15 last year.

The couple were strangled and/or had their necks broken before their bodies were driven to a plantation, covered with wood and a blanket and set alight, according to evidence at the trial.

Acting Judge Z.P. Nkosi yesterday found Boy-Boy Alfred Ntuli (24) — who lived and worked on weekends on the property rented by the O’Neales — guilty of robbery with aggravating circumstances, of the murder of Allan O’Neale and of being an accessory to the murder of Martha O’Neale.

Ntuli’s co-accused, Bhekumndeni Andrias Mkhize (25), was found guilty of the murders of both husband and wife, as well as of robbery with aggravating circumstances, based on the admissions that he had made to the police.

State advocate Dheelan Naidoo said the fact that the assailants earned good salaries showed they acted out of greed and not need.
