2012-03-23 00:00

TWO men arrested in connection with the torture and robbery of an Albert Falls family on the night of February 26 appeared briefly in the New Hanover Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Lucky Mbonambi (26) of K section, Umlazi, and Vusi Dlamini (28) of Reunion, Isipingo, on the South Coast, face charges of robbery with aggravating circumstances, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, fraud and theft of a motor vehicle.

The two were remanded in custody for further investigations and will appear again on April 10.

A stolen credit card, believed to have been used to purchase fuel, was allegedly found on one of the men when they were arrested in the Umlazi area on Wednesday.

Further investigations led to the recovery of a gold Toyota Run X motor vehicle parked abandoned in dense bushes in the KwaDabeka area near Claremont.

The vehicle had been reported stolen from the Berea area in late January.

Its alleged the accused were part of a gang of five men who tortured and terrorised a family of nine, robbing them of R40 000 in cash, jewellery, handbags and cellphones. They allegedly poured boiling water over a two-year-old-boy and other members of the family during the robbery.
