Pair to plead guilty to shooting contractor for his wages money

TWO men appeared in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court yesterday in connection with the robbery and attempted murder of contractor Bongani Patrick Ngubane (52), who was shot and wounded near the Golden Horse Casino on Friday.

He was allegedly followed from a bank after withdrawing staff wages.

Bongani Molefe (38) and Xolani Dlomo (32) of Willowfountain have indicated their wish to plead guilty, their legal aid representative, Nico Kinners, told magistrate Divesh Mootheram.

The case was postponed until tomorrow for a possible plea.

Prosecutor Ricky van Wyk said Ngubane is apparently still in a critical condition in hospital.

The accused were allegedly among seven suspects arrested in a car on Friday, shortly after Ngubane (a sub-contractor for Stefanutti Stocks) was shot and critically wounded after he alighted from a taxi near the casino.

He was allegedly shot at least five times when he resisted attempts by the robbers to take away his cash.

Police intercepted the getaway vehicle and arrested the occupants. They reportedly recovered R20 000 in cash and two unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

Molefe and Dlomo were the only accused charged in connection with the incident.
