Paralympics: PMB rider jumps into today’s final

2012-09-01 00:00

PIETERMARIZBURG paralympic rider Anthony Dawson qualified for the Individual Championship Test Final taking place at 10 am today at the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

He came in 15th in his equestrian discipline, para dressage, in which riders compete at a certain grade based on their level of impairment, and qualified for the finals.

The event is also a qualifier for the Freestyle to Music event which takes place on Monday.

“I am happy with how it went and I am looking forward to the finals,” Dawson told Weekend Witness yesterday.

This is Dawson’s first time at the Paralympics and he sees it as an experience to grow.

“The feedback has been positive and amazing. Team South Africa is very happy,” he said.

He has also had a chance to mingle with other South African athletes in London and has been receiving some great advice from some of them who are more experienced than he is.

Dawson said he would add more “pizzazz” to today’s finals and hopefully make his country proud. His parents are already proud of the 17-year-old, who was ranked 14th in the world in his section, Grade II, last year.
