Participants spruce up their stands for Royal Show opening

THE Royal Showgrounds was bustling yesterday with people erecting stands in preparation for Friday’s opening.

Cleaners swept, painters painted and administrators attended to people’s queries.

Some soldiers were practising the military tattoo; others erected tents for the military display to showcase their latest technology.

Captain Lewis Walker of Natal Mounted Rifles told The Witness that the Royal Show is an exciting event for the armed forces because units get an opportunity to teach visitors about their craft. The military stand has won two consecutive trophies as the best display.

“Our display is very popular, especially during the school group sessions, and it’s good to let people know what we have,” said Walker.

Another company participating in the Royal Show is Husqvarna, a producer of outdoor power products based in Pietermaritzburg.

General manager, product marketing, Malcolm Corns, said, “The Royal Show will give us an opportunity to showcase our brand to the local community that is rich in forestry, gardening and farming.”

He said the Royal Show is a major event on Husqvarna’s calendar and it will continue take part for many years to come.
