Pedestrian dies after being hit by bakkie

A PEDESTRIAN was killed when he was hit by a bakkie whilst attempting to cross the highway near Cedara on Tuesday night.

A truck which slowed down to avoid the accident was then rear-ended by another.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said the pedestrian died instantly. The drivers of the trucks and their occupants were not injured.

In another accident on the N3 a truck driver was seriously injured when his truck was involved in a rear-end collision with another heavy vehicle near Hilton.

Botha said the debris from the twisted wreckage of the trucks was strewn across the road, blocking it.

The seriously injured patient was stabilised a the scene by paramedics and transported to hospital.
