Penis piercing: teacher suspended

2013-08-09 00:00

THE teacher from a Pretoria school who allegedly took a pupil to get a penis piercing could be criminally prosecuted.

The Gauteng Education Department yesterday confirmed a teacher had been suspended pending a disciplinary hearing.

The teacher was appointed by the governing body.

CEO of the Federation of Governing Bodies of South African Schools, Paul Colditz, said the governing body of the school could take several steps against the teacher, which include laying criminal charges.

However, Colditz said if the pupil was older than 18, the pupil would be a major and entitled to decide if he wanted to get a body piercing.

The department declined to reveal the name of the school.

A spokesperson for the department said the matter was seen in a very serious light as it had a zero tolerance policy on sexual transgressions involving minors.
