People spooked by ‘human-like’ puppy

2011-04-29 00:00

DOUGLAS (Northern Cape) — A puppy with “a mouth, teeth and eyes like a human”, born in the Northern Cape village of Breipaal on Sunday, has frightened locals who say it looks like an “alien”.

The puppy, which lived only four days, had four normal litter mates.

Lemfvia van Niekerk, a Cope candidate in the town, said people were frightened of the animal, but many came to see it.

“Everyone had an opinion. Some said it looked like an elephant, a monkey, a tokoloshe or a space alien. The puppy had a strange face.”

Some people wondered if a human was involved in its conception, but a local vet said that was impossible.

“I didn’t see the puppy myself, so I can’t give an informed opinion.

“It does seem as if the animal had a genetic abnormality.”

She said it is impossible for the DNA of a human and a dog to combine.

The puppy died on Wednesday of unknown causes. — Own Correspondent.
