Phoenix family devastated as daughter’s body found in stream

A THREE-DAY search for their missing 18-year-old daughter came to an end for a Phoenix family when police found her battered body in a stream near Glen Anil yesterday afternoon.

Kimeera Rajbunsie, a student from Woodview, Phoenix, is thought to have been stabbed and beaten to death with a heavy frying pan. A former boyfriend has been arrested in connection with the crime.

It is alleged she had a tempestuous relationship with her boyfriend of two years and that the couple had separated two weeks ago.

The couple allegedly had an argument on a cellphone chat service on Monday with the last message from the boyfriend reading: “I will come and show you”.

A source close to the family said Kimeera, who had been alone, had allowed the former boyfriend into her home later that day.

It is believed she was then stabbed and beaten with the frying pan in the kitchen, during which the handle on the pan broke.

“She passed out as a result of her injuries and was carried to her bedroom, where there were attempts to have her resuscitated. When that was not successful, her body was carried out into a car, and she was then dumped in a stream in Glen Anil, near the R102,” said the source.

“We feared the worst when Kimeera went missing, as we found blood in the house, but we did not know how bad it was.

“She was a bubbly person and the apple of everyone’s eye. Her parents are taking her death quite badly as they held out hope that she would be found alive,” said the source.

Provincial police spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane said the suspect is charged with kidnapping and murder.

He said the suspect was arrested after pointing out where Kimeera’s body lay.
