Phone gives up some secrets

2014-02-21 00:00

THE police have gained access to a large part of the information on Oscar Pistorius’s iPhone, but still need Apple’s help to access the rest.

A source told sister paper Beeld that the police have obtained a court order in California to oblige Apple to decode encrypted data on the phone.

The source said although the police have accessed a lot of the data on the phone, there are still several accounts they need help to unlock.

Pistorius told the police he had forgotten his phone’s Apple ID pass code.

The police are still busy investigating the phone and would be able to present evidence from it until the state closes its case against Pistorius.

According to Apple, the Apple ID is a user’s access to almost every service Apple provides, like iCloud online storage and the iTunes and App stores.

It notes on its website that a person can have more than one Apple ID.
