Pinetown Cricket Club to showcase their new team

2013-09-05 00:00

WITH the KZN club cricket season starting on Sunday, September 29, Pinetown Cricket Club has confirmed three warm up matches, the first against Railways at Maidstone, Tongaat, on Sunday, September 8, at 10.30 am.

An influx of young players has allowed coach Barry Dyer to opt for a 13-man squad — only 11 will bat and be on the field at any one time — giving all players some time on the field and Dyer an opportunity to gauge some performances.

The three matches allow the side to clear the cobwebs and focus on what lies ahead, a season in the Challenge League. Pinetown will be hoping to win this league and return to the Premier League next season. With their current batch of players, the exuberance of youth could be the key to success.

Bruce Kruger, Tim Spence, Andrew Dyer, Kyle Gilham, Grant Olivier and Tyrone Koen, already established players in the team, are joined by newcomers Grant and Craig Romeril, Nick Tatham and Bryce Lund, keen for their first run in the familiar green and white colours.

Big news is the arrival of Westville old boy and former KZN U19 player Kyle Stirling, having spent the past six months in Scotland.

His experience playing for the Scottish U19 side and at the recent ICC U19 World Cup qualifiers should prove invaluable.
