Pink focus on breast cancer on the banks at Midmar

2012-02-11 00:00

WHILE most of the focus at the Midmar Mile this weekend will be on the swimmers and their achievements in the water, there will be a strong focus on raising awareness on various social issues during the two-day event.

The PinkDrive will be at the event to offer free education and breast examination sessions to women.

Not all of the focus will be on the serious side of the issue. PinkDrive marketing manager Sharon Smith said the team are known for fun activities and this event is no different.

“We will be spraying hair, painting nails, selling pink items and generally creating a pink party on our stand to create awareness of breast cancer,” she said, adding that all supporters are urged to have their breasts examined by a professional nurse, pop in and “go pink” for the cause.

The PinkDrive is aimed at creating awareness of the importance of early detection of breast cancer, said Smith.

The initiative runs mobile mammography and breast examination units that provide professional health service to women in disadvantaged communities, she said.
